Go West, young (wo)man (Kayenta, AZ)

We had a slightly longer ride today into the town of Kayenta (74 miles), but the terrain here is so beautifully flat (with small hills here and there) that we still made it in by noon. Finishing these rides early has been a lifesaver, as the weather has stayed cool enough in the mornings that it's been pretty bearable. The desert around here is so vast and empty that it still amazes me. We'll occasionally pass a trailer here, a grade school there, and an abandoned gas station over there, and I wonder what it must be like to live or work miles away from any other people. Kayenta is a small town, and we're staying at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and showering at a laundromat not far away. After cooking and a long affordable housing curriculum session, it's bedtime for all.

This is what the road looked like. All. day. long. I didn't realize how much emtpy America was left out there! PS - that's the shadow of me on the bike in front.
