The cows kept their distance today (Monday), so things were pretty quiet around Camp Tipton. There weren't quite enough jobs for us at the Habitat sites today, so I volunteered with a few other people to stay at camp and help with some construction projects around our host site. With the help of camp manager Andy, we constructed some tabletops for kids to decorate. The girls got a little creative with the project and started making tables in the shapes of trucks, fish, and (thanks to the creative genius of Eric and our own Andy), the state of Tennessee (well, sort of). We also started building a deck on a little concessions stand for the camp, and I learned lots of good construction skills like why not to nail boards to the benches they're resting on. When the workers from the Habitat sites came back, the dinner chore group cooked up a tasty meal of broccoli and chicken casserole, potato wedges and salad. After dinner, some folks drove over to Maryville College to a bluegrass jam session, while the rest shot some hoops in the camp gym or worked on our bikes. The sunset was gorgeous and the landscape spread out in front of us looked sort of like a Grandma Moses painting, so I chose to stick around, and Anita talked me into going on a run in the dark. She almost killed me, but I'm glad she took me along, since we've all be suffering from an energy slump since we've been off our bikes. Surprised as I am to say it, I'm starting to look forward to being back in the saddle!

Dinner at camp...not at all bad considering our budget of $4.40/person/day and metabolism out the roof. The dinner chore group rocks my socks off.
